Ángel Duarte
Ángel Duarte (1930–2007) was a Spanish sculptor who trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid. He lived in Paris between 1954 and 1961 and then moved to Switzerland. In 1957 he was among the founders—together with A. Ibarrola, J. Serrano, and J. Duart—of Equipo ’57, one of the most active groups in the field of kinetic-visual research. Duarte’s works, rejecting any reference to reality, are based on rigorous mathematical calculations, appearing as geometric constructions in space, animated by an internal dynamism, open and light; the use of metal wires and transparent materials is frequent.
