A true pioneer, Italian artist and designer Augusto Betti between the 50s and the 60s began to experiment with the countless possibilities of new synthetic materials. Among his most significant resin sculptures, “Scatola dei sentimenti” (feelings box).

In the artist’s own words:
“The harmony of this work is created by the union between a very sweet and sinuous shape and a linear and rigid one. The sculpture once closed assumes a rigid geometric shape. When the observer opens it, he finds the complementary aspect, the surprise, the pulsation, the poetry. These two aspects, apparently opposite, could give rise to a contrast or cancel each other out but having a harmonious relationship they generate emotion from their contrast, enhancing each other. In this work, harmony is determined by the coming together of the two elements. One plus one does not make two: there is the added value of the relationship between them which is immense.”
